Alienware M11X – 11.6″ inch gaming rig

I really can’t see the point of this new little beast Dell launched today via their gaming division, Alienware. It’s called M11X and comes with an 11.6 inch display. But, it’s not an Atom powered netbook like you might expect, but a gaming notebook. A gaming notebook that small? Well, yes.

Although i don’t see the point of it, as in why would someone want to play on such a tiny computer, i have to admit this machine really packs up some steam:

• Intel ULV dual core processor (exact version hasn’t been announced, but it’s perhaps the SU7300 or even the more powerful SU9400)
• 4 GB of RAM
• integrated and dedicated 1 GB graphics (GT335M chipset), both from Nvidia (switching between them does not require restart) – should be able to score up to 6-7000 points in 3D mark and run modern games like Call of Duty on Full details
• 11.6 inch display, HD ready (1366 x 768 px)
• backlit keyboard (adjustable via Alienware’s control console)
• 6 Cell battery (up to 2 hours on gaming mode or up to 6.5 hours with integrated graphics)
• weighs under 4 pounds
• will sell for less than $1000

All in one, Alienware outdone themselves. This is by far the most powerful 11.6 inch laptop announced till now, yesterday’s Gateway EC14D is just pitiful next to it.

I still doubt playing on such a small display is the best idea, but if you want a portable computer than can really deliver power (thanks to the processor, but also the graphic solution), this is it. It might be a little heavy and you can definitely find devices with way better autonomy in this class, but let’s be fair, 6 hours on this specs is still amazing.

Dell expects to ship the Alienware M11X during spring for less than $1000 . I for one am just looking forward to the first reviews, as i really am curios if this device can provide the graphic performance and battery life claimed by Dell.
