Another 12 inch EEE PC shows up, the ASUS 1201L

The folks at Asus just keep rolling new 12 inch netbooks every couple of weeks. It’s not time for a device called the EEE PC 1201L . What does this one bring and what’s the difference betwwen it and the previous models? See the post below for asnwers.

After announcing the 1201N version with Nvidia ION last year, along with the 1201HA with Atom Z processors , there were some recent rumors of a 1201T model built on AMD’s NEO platform. And now, the 1201L was showcased at CES 2010, boosting a less powerful Atom N270 processor and Nvidia Ion graphics. Also, unlike the other versions, this one doesn’t come with a preinstalled OS at all, although there’s the Asus ExpressGate quick boot environment present, and also driver support for Windows XP or Linux .

So, all in one, the 1201L Asus netbook is a less powerful version of the 1201N, without an OS. Thus it will probably sell for around $450 or so and will hit the stores in the next weeks (1201N sells for $484 right now).

So in the end, if you want a decent 12 inch netbook but don’t plan to get Windows on it, the EEE PC 1201L might be a smart solution and will save you some money. With the less hungry processor, it will also have a better battery life than the 1201N. But, if i were you, i wouldn’t mind the extra 30-50 bucks and go for the better overall package, which is the 1201N.
