Asus UL20FT – improved 12 incher with better performance

The guys at Asus are working on improving their mini laptops lines and upgrading them with latest generation hardware. One of the new devices to enter the market will be the Asus UL20FT, most certainly the follower of the popular UL20A available these days.

There aren’t many details of this new laptop yet, but as we’ve seen in the bigger 13.3 inch Asus UL30 class, it will probably be nearly identical to the existing series in terms of looks and design.

However, you’ll get some goodies inside, as Asus plans to replace the current ULV configurations (with SU7300 processor and 4500M graphics) with the new generation Arrandale platform. There will be a couple of different CPUs choices available, like the Celeron U3400 (1.06 GHz) or Core i3-330UM (1.2 GHz), both boosting Turbo33 technology which automatically overclocks processor when extra performance is needed. Alongside we should see DDR3 memory and integrated graphics from Intel. Plus the 12.1 inch 1366 x 768 px  display.

All these in a netbook that won’t weight more than 3.5 pounds and will be able to squeeze up to 8 hours of work from a 6 Cell battery.

All in all, the Asus UL20FT announces itself a pretty mean little machine. And while extra performance is always good, I’m curious how much we will have to pay for this machine extra, when compared to the current UL20A (which runs for around $500 right now)

Still, there’s no info on prices and availability for this Asus UL20FT yet, but stay tuned for more details in the next weeks.
