Asus 1005PR – 10 inch HD display and Broadcom accelerator

From the multitude of new mini laptops Asus presented at CeBIT 2010, it seems i managed to miss one, and what a big miss it was. I’m talking of course about the Asus EEE PC 1005PR, part of the Seashell line.

Outside, it looks very much the same as the EEE PC 1005PE line, the popular mainstream series from Asus, with the same glossy exterior and screen, the same chiclet keyboard and the same design. Inside however, there are a couple of changes; see the specs below:

• 1.66 GHz Atom N450 processor
• 10.1 inch display (1366 x 768 px)
• 1 GB of memory and 250 GB storage space
• Wi-fi N + Bluetooth 2.1
• Windows 7 Starter OS
• 6 Cell 63 Wh battery

So, you probably noticed the HD display, which is one of the most important changes. Although still glossy, it allows a bigger working area and much more crisp images. However, i’m not a big fan of 10 inch HD displays, i wrote about this in here. But many of you might like it.

Anyway, this Asus 1005PR has something more: the Broadcom Crystal HD graphic accelerator. With this upgrade, it can easily manage 720p videos (both self stored and flash with the latest plugin installed) and can even play some 1080p content. The video below proves it. So quite an addition in terms of multimedia performances over the 1005PE.

There’s no info for now how much will this Asus 1005PR going to cost or whether Asus will or not bring it to the US. But stay tuned for more info on the next weeks.
