Asus 1008P-KR gets more affordable version
Remember the fancy Asus EEE PC 1008P-KR , the 10 inch netbook bearing the mark of the famous designer Karid Rashim? If you don’t perhaps you should see the review I’ve posted about it a couple of moths ago.
Bottoms line though, the 1008P-KR is superior to standard mini laptops in terms of build-quality and finishing. Entire body is matte and comes with a special textured design. Plus, extreme attention has been paid to details.
However, like every designer laptops, this one from Karim Rashid also costs quite a lot more than a standard one, while not providing any special features. So, standard Asus 1008Ps sell for around 500 bucks in the states.

The good news is that there’s also a more affordable version. It comes with the following specs:
- 10 inch LED backlit screen (1024 x 600 px)
- Intel Atom N450 processor + GMA 3150 graphics
- 1 GB of memory
- 250 GB hard-drive
- Wi-Fi N, Bluetooth
- Windows 7 Starter
- 3 Cell battery – up to 5 hours of life
All these with a list price of $470. But, you can get these netbooks even cheaper online: the coffee brown version for $439 and the pink one for $424 . Click each link for more details or the option to buy them (prices are available for US only). Also, know that you also get a high quality leather case specially made for this netbook, with a nice magnetic lock.

Overall, you might end up asking yourself if the 1008P-KR is worth buying. Even these discounted versions are around 15% more expensive than a mainstream netbooks like the Asus 1005PE or the Toshiba NB305. The answer is simple: if you do care about looks and solid build quality, then yes. Otherwise, better stick to one of the 10 inchers in this list.
