Asus 1015N EEE PC – first 10 inch netbook with ION from Asus
Computex started today and we should expect quite a big number of new devices to emerge these days. One of the first is a new Asus 10 inch device, the EEE PC 1015N.
It will come with a 10.1 inch display with standard resolution (1024 x 600 px) and inside you’ll get the 1.5 GHz Atom N550 dual-core processor, 1 GB of memory, 250 GB hard-drive and hybrid graphics (ION 2 with Optimus). That means you’ll have the standard integrated GMA 3150 solution plus the 8 Cuda cores Nvidia chip meant for 10-11 inch mini laptops. All managed by Nvidia’s Optimus technology.
This configuration will allow better performance in graphic and multimedia applications, and expect to see decent performance in everyday tasks also, thanks to that dual-core N550 CPU. Still, the Asus 1015N will play 1080p content (and will be able to output it too, as this device comes with HDMI port) and will even handle some 3D games, but we can’t call it a gaming netbook just yet. Plus, battery life won’t suffer too much when using the device in office mode, so we should still probably get an autonomy of 8+ hours out of a 6 Cell battery.

On the outside, the 1015N EEE PC brings the same finish we’ve seen on the Asus 1015P, with an all mate casing, chiclet keyboard and wider trackpad with single click button. Still, the screen seems to be kept glossy on this version. No, the screen is also matte, which is pretty cool.

Prices and availability should be available in the next weeks for the Asus 1015N, as Asus declared they’ll offer more details about those in a future update. I for one would expect something around $400-$430 for this 10 incher in the US, with shipping dates probably in the second part of this summer. But stay tuned for more info, we’ll update with new posts on this subject once we find new stuff.
Update: Also check out the EEE PC 1015N hands-on video below from JKKMobile.
Update2: Recent rumors claim this netbook will hit the stores by late September, but take it with grain and salt.
More updates will follow as soon as I find new thing, so stay tuned.
