Asus 1015PD and 1015PED EEE PCs spotted – what’s the catch with them?
Oh my, just a couple of new Asus netbooks were just recently spotted on the Taiwanese producer’s site . If there’s weren’t enough Asus mini laptop models on the market, these two come as minor upgrades for the 1015P/1015PE lines.
In fact, the only difference from those ones is the fact that these come with the new DDR3 capable ATOM processors, the 1.66GHz clocked N455 and the 1.83 GHz N475 . Plus of course compatible DDR3 memory (1 GB installed, upgradeable to maximum 2 GB), most likely at 1333 MHz .
Besides these, all the other features from the mainstream 1015P/PE are here:
- new matte smooth body available in a couple of different colors
- 92% Full-Size chiclet keyboard and the new wider multi-touch trackpad
- 10.1 inch glossy display
- Wi-Fi N and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity
- USB 3.0 Slots, 0.3 MPx webcam with privacy cover, card-reader
- 3 Cell or 6 Cell batteries – autonomy up to 13 hours with the 6 Cell 66 Wh version

Asus 1015PD/PED series - DDR3 capable netbooks ready to charge the mainstream segment
Now, the Asus EEE PC 1015PDs/PEDs will definitely become top exponents in the mainstream netbooks segment. I’m not sure how much extra will Asus charge for them, compared to the 1015P/PE, but if 10-30 bucks, i would for sure go for these DDR3 capable devices. Like I’ve said in many other posts, there won’t be any significant differences in terms of performances between the two series, but still, every bit extra is appreciated.
Also, you might wonder what’s the difference between the PD and PED models. They all come with identical specs, but based on some tests of the 1015P/PD, the 1015PE should come with a brighter display, hence offering less battery life than the 1015PED. Plus, there will be some small aesthetic differences on the outside.

However, more details should be available soon, including prices and availability, so stay tuned for info on this site.
