Asus 1005PX EEE PC with matte display comes cheaper

Just a couple of days ago one of my readers mentioned a version of the Asus 1005PE available in the Netherlands with a matte display, unlike the standard versions we can find in the States.

Now that changed, as Asus launched the EEE PC 1005PX. Part of the Seashell series, this one is identical to the 1005PE, but with a non-glare display. That should mean less reflections and a more viable device to be used outside or in strong light conditions. Not sure if there will also be a version combining the matte exterior of the 1005PE-PU27-BK with this non-glossy display, but hopefully it will.

We know that the Asus 1005PX will be available in a couple of different configurations. All will boost the same platform (N450 Atom processor, 1 GB of memory, Windows 7 Starter, Wireless N), but some will offer different options for storage (160 – 320 GB) or extra features, like Bluetooth.

However, the 1005PX will lack some of the goodies the 1005PE has. For starters, it will only come with a 6 Cell 48Wh battery, with a predicted autonomy of up to 9 hours. That’s a lot less than what Asus claims for the 1005PE with the 6 Cell 63Wh heart (up to 14 hours). Also, there are only 2 USB ports now, like on the Asus 1001PX . Plus, from the available pictures, it seems to lack the nice chiclet keyboard. But will be available in 5 different colors, including red, yet to be seen on Asus netbooks.

All these suggest a lower price tag though. So while the 1005PE comes with a list price of $379, expect the 1005PX to start at around $330 or even less . Not sure when we’ll he able to see this EEE PC in stores, but expect it soon, as Asus already announced the new lines (1015P, 1016P and 1018P) available for late August.

    Did Asus 1005PX support bluetooth

The 1005PX is a really bad buy and is NOT at all identical to the 1005PE. apart from the downgrades mentioned here (smaller memory, only 2 USB ports) also the microphone plug is eliminated, and replaced with a uni-plug for both audio input and output. this effectively means you can not use a headset with this computer. also the keyboard is the cheaper type, not “chiclet” style as on the 1005PE.

Recently I purchased Asus 1005px and loaded with Ubuntu 10.04 and upgraded.Mic is not working for skype.Keyboard is very flimsy.Bluetooth dongle is working. WiFi is working well.Browsing net is good.
    Good for light use :-)

I been searching the web about the bluetooth issue and there really isn’t a consensus. The 1005px is advertised as having the bluetooth integrated but mine doesn’t work and when i try to install the driver it says that there isn’t a BT device connected. On the other hand 1005px really is a good netbook to use with ubuntu, all the aero and cube FX work like a charm, that alone proves that the computer is better than win7 starter can manage.
