Asus 1215B EEE PC – AMD Fusion powered 12 incher

There’s one more new model joining the extensive line of 12 inchers from Asus, called the Asus EEE PC 1215B and this one is probably going to be a big rival for the popular 1215N line, as it boosts AMD’s new Fusion hardware.

I was actually wondering when will Asus announce a mini laptop on this platform, as most of its rivals already showcased such notebooks at CES, like the HP Pavilion dm1, Sony Vaio YB and Lenovo IdeaPad S205.

Asus had the 1215B EEE PC displayed at their booth, but it didn’t seem to get so popular as the others, probably because at least in terms of design and exterior, it’s identical to all the other devices in Asus’ 12 inch series.

So expect it to come with that nice matte smooth finish and the ergonomic chiclet keyboard and trackpad, plus the 12.1 inch 1366 x 768 px display.

Still, on the inside it comes with the 1.6 GHz dual-core Zacate E-350 APU with Radeon Mobility 6130 graphics, 2/4 GB of memory and 250/320 GB hard-drive. Add Wireless N and Bluetooth, a 6 Cell battery and Windows 7 Home Premium and you get a nice mix. And since we already saw that this new AMD platform is quite snappy and provides a great balance between power, autonomy and price, you should expect the Asus EEE PC 1215B to become popular.

Performance wise, this one should actually become a better pick than the the 1215N, the extra punch of the AMD processor allowing smoother experience in most of your everyday tasks, although in games, the ION based 12 incher will still be superior.

No info on prices and availability, but since competition announced devices for early spring starting from 450 bucks, I’d say this mini laptop should be o par with them. But stay tuned, we’ll be keeping an eye on this Asus EEE PC 1215B and we’ll update as soon as we find new details.

I have my asus 1215 with atom N550 dual core. I’m really glad to have this one.
I wonder: according to the processors (intel and amd) what will be the significant diference?
My 1215 is powered by 1GB DDR3 ram. Can I replace it with 2 GB or 4 GB one?

Sastra, the 1215N does not have Atom N550, but Atom D525 . And you can of course upgrade it to up to 4 GB of memory.

Sastra probably means the problem of Asus 1215N where in spite of installed 64bit OS, system recognizes only slightly more than 3GB of RAM. This problem solves the unofficial bios: http://netbooksreview.net/news/asus-1215n-ram-issue/#more-1032

I would love to buy one (finally 720p and up youtube without any problems [compared to crappy Atom and it's GMA 3150]) but why they don’t offer any thing with matte screen – just glossy one I hate :)

What is the better netbook? The Asus Eee Pc 1215B, the 1215N, or the Sony VAIO YB?
I would use it for browsing the net, for make presentations, and maybe for playing games.

i would choose the 1215b between those, it’s the best priced and provides the best bung for the buck in my eyes
