ASUS CEO on the future of netbooks, smartbooks and mobile devices

Joanna at Engadget managed to get an interesting interview with the big boss from Asus, Mr Jerry Shen and they talked a little bit about Asus vision on future netbooks, smartbooks and mobile phones using Windows 7.

You can watch the video below, but i must warn you that MR Shen’s accent is pretty bad:

Anyway, if you failed to understand all the things in there, basically he’s saying that:

  • they’re pursuing in developing a product on the EEE Pad prototype, a direct competitor for the Apple iPad. And they are focusing more on interface and apps than on the device itself
  • there’s nothing decided on Asus smartbooks, as putting ARM based processor in netbook-like devices might not be the best idea, especially now when Intel products are getting cheaper and provide better performances and overall experience quality. But they will use ARM solutions for the touch tablet devices mentioned above.
  • they might have Windows 7 powered mobile phones, as they believe Microsoft is really trying to make this OS a success in order to get a big share of the expanding smartphones market
  • they are aware of the confusion caused by the too many Asus netbook versions existing these days and are working on solving the problem
