Asus Eee Box EB1501U and EB1012Ux nettops are here

Nettops are getting better and better. Asus just officially announced two of the devices displayed at CeBIT earlier this month, the EEE Box EB1501U and EB1012U. Names are still weird and confusing, but the actual gadgets are impressive, true multimedia centers in compact bodies.

Both devices offers dual-core Atom processors and Nvidia Ion graphics, but it’s not the latest generation with Optimus, it’s the previous one. Still, the devices can handle 1080p content (can be output to an external LCD or plasma display via HDMI), as well as streaming HD content from online and decently running even the modern 3D games. Plus, they now come with the latest generation USB 3.0 slots, 10 times faster than the USB 2.0 standard. Pretty interesting.

The specs and the photos are below.

First, there’s the Asus EEEBox EB1501U :

  • Intel dual core Atom D330 processor
  • up to 4 GB of RAM (2 slots)
  • Nvidia ION with GeForce 9400M graphics
  • 250 GB storage (2.5″)

  • card-reader
  • 1xUSB 3.0 , 4 x USB 2.0, Gigabit LAN, HDMI
  • 222mm (W) x 178mm (H) x 26.9mm (D) and 2.4 pounds

  • 250 GB storage (2.5″)

  • card-reader
  • internal DVD-RW unit
  • 2xUSB 3.0 , 4 x USB 2.0, Gigabit LAN, HDMI

So, as you ca see, the devices are pretty much the same, with the first one being more compact, while the second offers an internal DVD-unit.

For now there’s no exact info on prices, but expect them to be around $350 – $400 . Quite affordable for such capable little beasts actually. Also, there’s nothing sure on shipping dates, but expect these nettops on the market in the next couples of weeks.

More details can be found on their official pages here and here . Also, stay tuned for updates on this EEEBox devices in the near future.
