Asus Eee Box EB1012P to feature new dual-core ATOM and ION
With new dual-core ATOM processors scheduled to enter the market in the next months, we should expect quite a bunch of new mini computers boosting those to be unveiled in the near future.
One such device is the Asus Eee Box EB1012P, a new compact nettop, ideal as a HTPC/mini-desktop because of its decent performances and low-power consumption. Now, this computer is designed to stream media (can easily play 1080p content, both self-stored and Flash) inside your house towards a bigger display, but it can also be used as an everyday computer, as it is capable of running all your daily applications and even some games. Of course, do not expect too much from it, this is still an Atom configuration, but will handle quite a bunch, making it an ideal device for office use or for kids.
The Asus EB1012P is the direct successor of the current EB1012 line. It will not bring Bluetooth 3.0 like the EB1012U, but is built on the new PineTrail platform. You will find inside a dual-core Intel Atom D510 processor (1.6 GHz), 2 GB of DDR2 memory and Nvidia ION graphics (the more powerful 16 Cuda cores version). You’ll also get 250 GB hard-drive, good connectivity (Wi-Fi N, Gigabit LAN and Bluetooth 2.1), VGA and HDMI output, 5.1 audio output and Windows 7 Home Premium, plus 6xUSB ports so you can connect a bunch of different peripherals.

Asus EB1012P - new mainstream EEE Box with latest generation dual-core Atom and ION
All these while keeping the same slim and compact design we’ve seen on the previous generation EEE Boxes.
I would expect the Asus EB1012P to enter the market at around $400, probably with keyboard/mouse included. You’ll just have to add a display and you’ll have a nice mini computer in your home, capable of all kind of jobs. And like i told you, will only need up to 40W of energy per hour, which is a lot better than you’ll get from any other desktop.
So, all in all the Asus EEE Box EB1012P is a great machinery. Expect it to enter the list of best nettops soon after entering the market, which should happen by the end of the summer.
