Asus Eee PC 1001PX gets official
Asus officially announced yesterday a new netbook in their entry level 10 inch segment, the EEE PC 1001PX.
As you know, they already have the Asus 1001P here, a device able to provide lots of goodies for the sub $300 price asked for it. The new version is an addition to the line and brings a couple of more tweaks and customization options.
Here are the good parts: Unlike the 1001P, you will be able to equip this netbooks with a bigger 250 GB hard-drive by default. Also, the screen has been replaced with a non-glare one. That, along with the textured matte casing, makes the 1001PX one of the best netbooks to carry along in trips. Asus also plans to offer the 1001PX with the option for either Windows XP Basic or Windows 7 Starter as OS, thus influencing somewhat overall performance level and price. As for connectivity, expect a Bluetooth option too next to the standard Wi-Fi N.
As for cons, the 1001PX will only offer 2 USB ports instead of 3 and battery life is no longer up to 11 Hours, but up to 9, which suggest a lower capacity 6 Cell battery will be delivered with this device.

Asus 1001PX - not much has changed inside, but many improvements waint on the interior
Still, I believe these are inconvenients you can live with. Especially since the EEE PC 1001PX should be even cheaper than the 1001P, with starting prices of $279 in the US. Expect the buffed up versions to be around $310 – $330 though.
Update: In the meantime the Asus 1001PX hit the States. However, it is cheaper than the 1001P, but not by much. There are two versions available, one with a 3 Cell (4 hours) battery and one with a 6 Cell (9 hours) one. Both sell for around $290 these days. Mode pics, details, reviews from those whom already bought them are available via this link.
