Asus Eee PC 1011PX is the new 1001PX, nothing we haven’t seen before

Asus showed off a couple of AMD Fusion powered netbooks during CES, but this doesn’t mean that they ditched their long lasting partnership with Intel.

They used a lot of Atom chips in their cheap netbooks before AMD came up with the Fusion line and they will use both solutions head to head, trying to cover a bigger portion of the market.

You might remember the 1001PX, one of the low price 10 inch netbooks Asus introduced back in 2009. It had a single core Atom processor, 1 GB of RAM and a 160 GB HDD. It was primarily aimed at schools with a limited budget and business people looking for a reliable and ultra portable IT solution. Sure, it’s not a netbook to scare you, but you can never have enough low priced devices out there to satisfy everyone.

Asus is moving a (little) step forward and announced that the 1001PX gets an upgrade and will be named 1011PX, although in some markets it will be sold as the RO11PX. So, what’s new? An Intel Atom 455 processor instead of the previous 450 chip, 1 GB of DDR RAM 3, a 250 GB hard drive, WiFi and Windows 7 Starter.

The netbook will be formally introduced during the CeBIT trade show next month. As we said, it’s nothing to be scared about, but for a cheap netbook the deal is not that bad.

Asus plans to retire the 1001PX and replace with the 1011PX, selling it for roughly the same price, around $450. So you get a slightly better machine for the same amount of cash. Nice, thank you. Anyway, we’ll have to wait some more for a truly original netbook from Asus packing an Intel processor. That will happen when Intel will release the Oak and Cedar Trail chips, sometime later this year.
