Asus EEE PC 1015BX goes for 200 euros in Europe

You might remember the 1015BX, a netbook announced back in April, as a more budget version of the 1015B.

It’s not like the 1015B was a fantastic netbook anyway, as it’s powered by AMD’s low voltage C-30 single core processor and HD 6250 graphics, being one of the entry level Fusion APUs. Time passed and Asus decided to put on the 1015BX their new dual core C-60 APU, which is a slightly overclocked C-50, meaning you get a 1.33 GHZ processor paired with Radeon HD 6250 graphics.

Thanks to nvedil.com, we now know that the netbook will go for 205 euros in Europe, namely in Germany and Austria- in the UK and Italy prices tend to differ from the rest of the continent. This is apparently the first netbook to pack AMD’s new Fusion labeled hardware, which is basically their previous line (C-30, C-50 and E-350) with increased clock speeds for both the processor and integrated video card.

Everything else seems to be pretty standard when we look at the 1015BX. It comes with 1 GB of RAM,  a relatively large 320 GB hard disk drive, a matte display and a battery said to go for about 6 hours on a single charge, even with WiFi on.

If you want, you can upgrade the RAM to a maximum of 4 GB, but for that to happen you’ll have to ditch the pre installed Windows 7 Starter as well for a more accomplished version of Microsoft’s OS. Also, you can give Windows 8 a go, as the developer preview is now available and it’s easy to install.

The 1015BX is available for pre order on Amazon Germany

The netbook is currently available for pre order in a couple of European countries and will ship in a few weeks- hopefully not too many, as one ndevil user said that Amazon estimated early December as a reasonable time frame for delivery of the product.

The C-30 version of the 1015BX is out for quite some time and you can grab it from Amazon for 229 euros, which is more expensive than the future C-60 powered version and offers in theory less performance…doesn’t look like a smart move, does it? :P

As for a US release, there’s no info about when the netbook will hit the States, but it’s very likely for Asus to sell the netbook there as well, considering the 1015B and other Asus netbooks have a history there.

Garry, it’s the same as the 1015B. Search for the review here on the site.

Basically, the AMD GPU smokes the Intel GMA 3150 the N550 uses.  CPU performance gives multitasking advantage to AMD but slightly more raw performance to the N550.  The N550 though also uses less power and thus has longer run time on average.

Mind I’m only referring to comparison to the C-50 or C-60 AMD options.  The C-30 performs lower than even single core ATOMs but still has the better GPU.

It takes N550 combined with Nvidia ION to compete with AMD for graphical performance.

But if you can live without HDMI, and playing games that are possible to play with 10x+ more graphical performance the AMD GPU provides, then the N550 is still a solid choice for a netbook.
