Asus EEE PC 1201PN gets 70 bucks discount

As we’re all waiting for the Asus 1215N EEE PC to enter the market, I’m not sure many of you were aware there’s already a device equipped with the new Nvidia ION on the market, called the Asus EEE PC 1201PN.

This one used to retail for around 500 bucks, but you can get it online these days with a hefty 70 bucks discount, on websites like Amazon.com .

Now, what’s the difference between this existing 1201PN and the awaited 1215N? Well, while the 1215N will bring the dual core Atom D525 processor, this machine only comes with the standard single core Atom N450 clocked at 1.66 GHz . This translates overall in poorer performance in every day tasks and multitasking. In fact, that’s the same when compared to the older Asus 1201N, with dual-core D330 Atom CPU and older ION.

Of course, this device is still capable of handling graphics and some games. Playing HD content, both self-stored or streamed from Youtube, Hulu or Netflix is not a problem, as long as you don’t try to ran many apps simultaneously. Gaming on the other hand is, at least in latest titles, where the lack of CPU power is noticeable.

Asus 1201PN - new ION means better graphic abilities and battery life

Having the new ION and the N450 processor will make this machine more versatile in terms of battery life, with an autonomy of 5-6, maybe even 7 hours on a single charge, as long as you won’t deal with heavy graphic applications.

In terms of looks and build quality, all machines are pretty much the same, although the 1215N does bring that bigger and wider trackpad, plus the matte finish, while the 1201PN is glossy, like the previous generation 1201N.

So, as you can see, the 1201PN ain’t perfect, it comes with its limitations. Still, if you need a decent 12 inch mini laptop, with better graphic abilities than standard such devices, but don’t feel like waiting for the 1215N or look to save around 100 bucks, this Asus EEE PC 1201PN could be a good pick. More details, pics and reviews are available via this link. And remember, it is now available for around $430, while the 1215N will probably go for at least $500 (latest rumors even speak of $550) in the States.

So I’m thinking; should I wait for the 1215N arriving to my store (they don’t know when) or should I get the 1201PN?

    What would you choose?

If you want to play games, wait for the 1215N. If money are not a concern, wait for the 1215n . However, if you want only movies and are on a strict budget, you could get the 1201PN. Those 70 bucks you’ll save will be enough for a nice case and mouse :P
