Asus EEE PC 1215P – dual core Atom N550 on a 12 incher
Oh yes, here we go, there’s another 12 inch Asus EEE PC mini laptop announced, this time the 1215P.
How is this different from the 1215N? Well, while that one has a dual core D525 1.83 GHz processor, this new one, the Asus 1215P, will come with the hyped Atom N550 1.5 GHZ processor. Also, seems like there’s no ION graphics on it, but only the default GAM 3150 from Intel.
Ok, and what does that mean? Mainly, both CPUs are dual-core. The D525 is clocked slightly faster, but it was designed for the best nettops and with less concern for energy efficiency when compared to the N550. According to Intel’s specs, the D525 comes with a max TDP of 13W, while the N550 only needs 8.5W . Both CPUs support DDR3 memory, up to 2 GB of the N550 and twice as much for the D525. But in both cases you get a single memory channel.

Asus EEE PC 1215P
So, that means the Asus 1215P should be slightly less powerful than the Asus 1215N, but better than the Asus 1201PN . Also, it should be better in terms of battery life, with 10-20% increase in life on a single charge. In terms of graphics though, expect it to be quite poor: should be able to run HD content, but it won’t face games at all.
There are no other details on the Asus EEE PC 1215P for now. However, it was spotted in Europe with a price of around 460 euro, comparable to the one of the 1215N.
That it for now, but stay tuned, I”ll update as soon as i find more details on this Asus 1215P with Atom N550 processor.
Update: The Asus 1215P is only available in the US and goes for $379, but Amazon.com lists it for only $289 these days, with shipping included within US borders. See the link for details and more pics and reviews from those who actually bought this device already.
