ASUS Eee PC Kids 1001PQ – new laptop for kids spotted at CeBIT

With CeBIT just on run, infos on the devices presented there already started to pop.

First, there’s a new line of netbooks from Asus, called EEE PC Kids and destined to your little ones of course, with the 1001PQ as the first model from this series. This one brings nice childish looks with a powerful up-to-date platform and a lot of extra goodies just perfect for a young-one.

So, it will come in two different versions, one in black and yellow and the other in Black and Purple with a floral arm-rest design.

Both will be glossy and from the looks of them, really resemble the 1005-HA version (the shape, the screen, the keyboard and touchpad). So, with that version being quite popular in its days, we should expect the 1001PQ to be at least as good.

In terms of hardware, you’ll get the Intel Atom N450 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 160 GB hard-drive, Wi-fi b/g, webcam, card-reader and a 6 Cell battery capable of up to 11 hours of life (so as you might notice, specs are identical to the EEE PC 1001P line).

As for operating system, we’ll probably get Windows XP with a specially designed skin and the Magic Desktop interface, a collection of applications meant to help your kid learn various things and understand computers better. Of course, it comes with a customizable parental control environment, so your kids activity will be always monitored both offline and online.

More should be unveiled in these next days at CeBIT. I for one expect these devices to sell for $349 and they will probably be available pretty soon.
