Asus Eee PC RO51PX to have dual core processor and affordable price tag

The RO51PX is a new entry in the Eee PC series and is basically an upgrade for the R105D, which was an entry level 10 inch netbook, powered by a single core Atom processor.

The new iteration, however, is powered by a dual core processor, namely the N570, which has two cores running at 1.66 GHZ, as well as better power management and better support for graphic intensive applications. Also, this is the first Eee PC entry to come with a N570 processor.

The rO51 PX will cost about 270 euros and is only available in Europe, which is a very good price for a dual core netbook, considering that single core netbooks still go for as much as 300, with the lowest priced hitting the 250 mark.

It’s only normal for Intel to try to quickly move their new N570 stocks of dual core processors, considering that later this year Intel will roll out their even newer generation of dual core chips for netbooks, N2600 and N2800, which will come with HD support and highly improved power management.

The other specs of the netbook are basically identical with those on the R105D, meaning you get 1 GB of RAM (true, DDR3 instead of DDR2), a 250 GB, 5400 rpm hard disk drive, WiFi and blue tooth 3.0.

The display has a standard 1024 x 600 resolution and the OS on board is of course Windows 7 Starter, but considering the solid hardware, I think an upgrade to Home Premium is on the cards for most users.

There’s also a VGA slot, 3 USB 2.0 ports, as well as a 0.3 MP web cam. The battery is said to run for an impressive 11 hours, but I guess that’s with WiFi off. So if you do intend to browse the web while using the netbook, a more realistic estimate would probably be 7-9 hours.

As we said, the netbook is available in Europe for as low as 279 euros. So if you want to buy a dual core netbook at the price of a single core machine, you should make your move fast.

Hopefully this kind of deals will keep appearing in Europe, with US to follow soon enough. The current generation can offer good performance and if the price cuts will be significant, it might be a good opportunity for those skeptical about netbooks to give one a try.
