Asus EEE PC X101 – super light and slim netbook, with Meego
That ultra-sleek looking new 10 inch netbook Asus teased last week finally gets a name: the Asus EEE PC X101. It was just officially announced at Computex in Taipei and it is the slimmest and lightest EEE PC so far.
Of course, there’s a good reason for that: the X101 is a cloud based focused portable notebook, kind of what we knew before as a smartbook. You can even see it as an alternative to those ChromeBooks, only with a different OS (Meego, Intel’s own light OS) and a cheaper price tag.
Cause yes, the EEE PC X101 is expected to start at only $200. No details yet on the specs you’ll get for this kind of money, but expect an Intel OakTrail processor with 1 GB of RAM and probably cloud-storage (with a 16GB SSD included as well).
There are also mentions of an Asus App store for applications and hopefully multimedia content.

Let’s focus a little bit more on the looks of this one, as the body looks really sleek, will be available in a bunch if lively colors and measures only 17.6 mm in thickness, while weighing 950g (2.1 pounds). You also get a non-glare 10.1 inch display like I said, chiclet keyboard and decent sized trackpad. See the pics and clip for more info.
There’s also going to be an X101H version, which will bring Windows 7 as the OS and HDD storage.
That’s it for now with the Asus EEE PC X101 but stay tuned for updates soon. There are still many things unknown about this one, including the actual specs, battery size or some predicted shipping schedule.
