Asus EEE Slate EP121 Windows 7 tablet is finally official
It’s tablets galore at CES 2011, and Asus is going with the flow; they have revealed the new powerful tablet, the EEE Slate EP121.
Asus has added a myriad of features into this EP121. One such feature is its 1280×800, widesreen 12.1 inch touch display. And it also has has IPS capacitive panel with a Wacom digitizer. For those of you who aren’t into graphic design, Wacom is pretty much the bar when it comes to stylus-interactive displays. Anyways, the included stylus will most likely function with little problems, seeing that the display is Wacom-based.
Heck, I’d even consider installing Adobe CS5 on the 32GB SSD or 64GB SSD and take advantage of the digitizer, especially since the tablet runs Windows 7 Home Premium and packs an Intel Core i5-470UM processor with either 2GB or 4GB RAM to back it up. And the fact that there is a USB 2.0 port only broadens its capabilities. Talk about a powerful tablet.
But do the goodies end there? Not just yet. The EP121 also comes with a mini HDMI port, so you should be able output 1080p video onto your big screen TV at home, if you so desired. Furthermore, an internal microphone and speakers, and a 2.0 mega pixel front-facing camera will capture your visage as you Skype with Mom. And as an added bonus, you get a multi card reader.
The EP121 is definitely a power tablet worth looking into, despite the fact that it starts at 1000 bucks. The only possible area of concern is the battery runtime – after all, the tablet does some with a Core i5 CPU. Some early hands-on estimate around 3.5 hours on a single charge in everyday tasks, which is fair considering the performances you can expect from it, but still doesn’t quite make it a portable devices.
Asus Also prepares a bunch of accessories for the Slate EP121. A wireless ergonomic keyboard was already showcased but we’re also waiting for a nice solid stand that could transform it into a Desk computer. Then it could really be used to its full potential.

Accessories will make all the difference for the EP121 Slate
Update #1: According to liliputing.com, the EP121 is out for pre-orders. The exact price, however, isn’t listed but is expected to be in the $1000+ range.
Update #2: The prices are out! The 32GB version goes for $999, and the 64GB version for $1099.
