Asus R101 EEE PC pops out, but not much is new
One could easily loose count off the many Asus netbooks already available on the market. And now there’s another one, the Asus R101 EEE PC, a 10 incher meant for budget oriented customers.
Inside, there’s nothing new. You get the same hardware configuration with N450 processor, 1 GB of RAM, Intel GMA 3150 graphics and 250 GB hard-drive. There’s Wi-Fi N present but no Bluetooth and the battery is a 6 Cell 4400 mAh one, capable of up to 9.5 hours of life on paper.
Outside you get the faux-carbon-fiber look seen on other EEE PCs. In fact, the R101 looks very much like the 1001P or 1001PX, with two exceptions: system LEDs were moved from the right part of the palm rest to the left one and the area around the display is no longer glossy, but matte . Not sure if the screen is glossy or matte, but we know there are only going to be 2 USB slots on this 10 incher.
All this info are based on a listing from a German online store which also posted a picture of the netbook. According to it, the Asus EEE PC R101 is expected to sell for 299 euros (which is 50 euro more than the listing price for the 1001P there).

Asus R101 EEE PC - new 10 incher but no so new actually
This would be translated in around 350 bucks in the States, but i don’t think the R101 will ever cross the pond. And even if it does, at least for now i see no reason for getting it.
But let’s wait and see, as more details on this Asus R101 should be available in the near future.
Update: In the meantime we found out the the Asus R101 is only going to be available in Europe (it is actually and it sells for around $250 euro, a fair price). The screen is matte after all and so is the case too, thus the R101 is a great option for a cheap mini laptop you can easily take with you everywhere, even outdoors. Mobicroco has some pictures of it in here (post is in German).
