Asus U36J – first look and impressions (video and photos)

Just got my hands on the Asus U36J, the new ultraportable 13.3 incher from the Taiwanese producer. This one comes to replace the so very popular U30 line, bringing improved hardware and a new body, sleeker than ever before.

If you thought the Acer TimelineX 3820TG was slim, you should see this one, as it only measures up to 0.75 inches. And it’s also very light (aorund 3.2 pounds with a 4 Cell battery and 3.8 pounds with an 8 Cell one).

There will be at least two different versions of this laptop on the market. The base model, the one I have right now here, will come with a Core i3-380M processor, Nvidia 310M graphics (plus integrated HD Graphics and Optimus) 2 GB of memory, 500 GB hard-drive, Windows 7 Home and a 4 cell 44Wh battery. The top one will have a Core i5 processor and an 8 cell battery, that should allow up to 10 hours of life (and remember, we’re talking about a powerful computer, not an Atom netbook).

For the moment, I just had this notebook for a couple of hours today and managed to shoot a video and run some benchmarks. You can find the video below.

And also some pictures, but only a few, more will come in the next days, as I plan to post a thorough review as well.

Also, I posted some benchmarks for this machine here, as I believe it is one of the first laptops to come with the core i3-380M processor, clocked at 2.53 GHz.
