Asus Waveface concept – interesting idea, too futuristic for now
Although Asus presence at CES this year was kind of fade, at least when talking about ultra-portables’ segment, they did showcase an interesting concepts: Waveface, and three prototype gadgets to better illustrate it.
The idea behind Waveface is to create a line of devices that would allow you to interact with the web, while communicating with each other so they’ll always contain the latest up to date information required. The entire concept sounds great, i would like to have a gamma of multimedia devices that will allow me full control of web applications when at home or on the go, but it is kind of futuristic for these days.
And so are the mockup three units showcased at CES:
- first, there’s the Ultra, a phone like device that rolls as a hand wrist and comes with a flexible OLED display that can be controlled by hand gestures in mid air

Waveface Ultra
- then, there’s the Light, a netbook/tablet device, also with a huge OLED screen that can be folded or unfolded according to the need of the user

Waveface Light
- and last, there’s the Casa, a TV/home computer device that can be also controlled through hand gestures in the air
Of course, for now these are just dreams and there’s nothing we can see besides some pictures. And while these devices look amazing and the idea behind them is interesting, i doubt we’ll be able to have such technology too soon. As for those hand gesture controls, they remind me of last year’s Gamer movie (i was thinking of how cool the controls were when watching it).
