Atom N550 netbooks – available now or soon

With the N550 Atom announced yesterday by Intel, there will be a bunch of netbooks with this one on board soon. And as predicted, news on them already start massing up.

First, you should know that this processor will be clocked at 1.5 GHz and comes with 512 Kb L2 cache. And it is the first dual-core Atom processor specially designed for small laptops in the 10 inch class.

That means it will make them capable of multitasking and even run HD content/some games (these with the help of ION), while still keeping energy drain low. In fact, JKK tested an early 1015N prototype and got power consumption between 8.5 and 15.5 Wh, while mainstream devices with single-core Atoms get from 7 to 15 Wh in similar situations. So way improved performance with nearly the same battery life, who wouldn’t want that?

In these next rows I’m going to make a list of devices announced or available , all bringing the N550 Atom processor. Click the links next to each of them for more details .

  • Acer Aspire D255, with the standard Acer design, but packed with 2 GB DDR3 memory as standard. Should be available this Fall, hopefully with a nice price tag (via)
  • Lenovo S10-3 – N550 , 1 GB of DDR3 memory and Windows Starter, is already available for preorder in Australia already and should ship from September 7th (via)
  • Gigabyte T1005M – this one is in fact a tablet netbook , the upgraded version of the T1000P . Will bring HD screen, 2 GB of memory, 250 GB storage, 3G+Wi-Fi N+ Bluetooth and a big 6 Cell battery, all for around 800-900 bucks (via)
  • Asus 1015PEM – similar to the mainstream 1015PED, with matte casing and solid build quality, but with N550. Goes for $370 right now, which is a great deal.
  • HP Mini 210 and HP 5103 – good devices, but configuring them with N550 will make these mini laptops way more expensive than their competitors
  • Asus 1015PN - rumored with N550 and Nvidia ION, but nothing is confirmed for now
  • Acer Aspire One Happy – similar to the 255, only with a cool lime green casing
  • Dell Inspiron Duo – the new 10 inch tablet from Dell
  • Acer 1215P – a dual core N550 equipped 12 incher, but without Nvidia ION
  • Samsung NF310 – with the new design and HD display

That’s it for now, but stay tuned, I’m sure there will be a lot of updates on the products in this list very soon, as Intel already announced all big producers are currently developing N550 powered netbooks.
