Asus 1218 EEE PC pops out – award winning netbook with ION

I for one was impressed with the looks of the new Asus EEE PCs announced at CeBIT in early March and I’m sure i wasn’t the only one. But now, Asus has a device even more beautiful, the Asus 1218 EEE PC . You can check the pictures below for details on it, but, just as proof of its impressive design, the EEE PC 1218 just received a Red Dot Award for 2010 .

Meant to deliver a perfect balance between aspect and mobility, this mini laptop will be a 12 incher. Details about it are very few though. What we have now are the pictures, and they are just amazing. Inside there’s the chiclet keyboard (probably a full-size one) and a good trackpad. Outside you get the aluminum finish (in silver or black) we already saw on the Asus 1018P , but all the ports are now placed on the back of the device, thus offering it a sleeker look. And from what i can tell, the 1218 is definitely slim, slimmer than the 12 inch Seashells Asus has right now.

Update: Digitimes report that this new device might have Nvidia’s new ION platform inside, so expect it not to be only a looker, but also quite powerful. Also, it will probably be launched on May 13th and will sell for the equivalent of 600 bucks in Taiwan. That doesn’t mean it will be so expensive when it reached the US, but it will probably have a starting price of $500, which is more than decent if it comes with ION (and considering the design).

That’s about it for now. Check out the pictures and stay tuned, more info about the EEE PC 1218 should emerge in the near future.

Oooh, pretty. I’ll be quite happy to purchase either this or the 1018p, whichever decides to show itself first…

Yeah, i feel exactly the same. Still, if this one is going to pack ION and a dual core ATOM, it will be a lot more interesting than the 1018P, at least in terms of performances and things you can do with it.
