Billabong branded Sony Vaio W spotted
I am a big fan of the Vaios, Sony’s line of laptops. The W series is what they have to offer in the 10 inch netbooks segment, and while overall a good device, solid built and good looking, I don’t consider it one of the best picks in the 10 inch class just because it is 20% more expensive than the competition, while bringing virtually the same specs and features.

Net design suited for teenagers
However, the Vaio’s do look better, way better than other 10 inchers from Asus, Acer or Lenovo. In fact, I think right now the HP 5102 is the only mini laptops able to stand proudly next to a Vaio W. But that’s not really the point here. Sony decided to offer a limited edition Vaio W, in collaboration with Bilabong. You know, the famous company involved in all kind of X-sports and known for their gear, clothing and equipment much appreciated by those practicing skateboarding, snowboarding or surfing. And what better place to present this new laptop than Australia, the home of big mean waves.
As you would expect, the Vaio W Bilabong doesn’t bring anything new on the inside; you get the same N450 Atom processor, 10 inch HD ready display, 1 GB of RAM, 250 GB hard-drive and Windows 7 Starter as OS. However, you get a new colorful look, which i for one really like. And since Sony says the “average age of netbook users drops every year”, I’m pretty sure this Bilabong Vaio W will get plenty of people keen to get it.

The bad part is that it will only be available in Australia, at least for starters. Will sell for $749 AUD, which means around 620 US dollars. But prices are bigger for such devices Down-under, so, if this Vaio W is going to reach the States somewhere in the future, it should be cheaper. For now though, if you want it, look for it in Australian shops from late June 2010.
