Dell Streak cases – best cases, accessories and covers for Streak

Now, with the Dell Streak just around the corner in the US, we should also see some nice Dell Streak accessories start popping out. Probably not as many as the cases and covers for iPad, as I doubt this mini tablet will ever be as popular as Apple’s gadget, but still.

For the moment there aren’t many such accessories and cases you can pick from. But, I will update this post once some of the best Dell Streak case and cover options do come out.

However, for now, I am going to talk about some of the things I would want on my Dell Streak, if I were ever to buy one.

Dell Streak covers, cases and screen protectors

With its sleek shape, you'd better protect it well

With its sleek shape, you'd better protect it well

Well, these are the most important ones. Since the Streak is expensive ($550 without a plan or $300 with 2-year contract), I should care an buy some proper protection for it.

Now, this tablet comes with a Gorilla Glass screen, which is supposed to never scratch and be almost indestructible. There are some videos proving the toughness of this display, but still, i don’t feel like risking. A proper thin film protector will cost around $20, like a ZaggShield (hopefully they will make them for this Streak too). And given my experience with the Shield on my iPod Touch, I’m confident it will surely be worth the money and it is the best Dell Streak screen protector money could buy.

While the screen is strong on its own, I’m not so sure about the entire device. The Streak is quite slim, which is very cool, but might also mean it will be fragile. Thus, a proper case will be needed. If you plan using it outside, in harsher conditions, a silicone or even a rubber Dell Streak case would be indicated. There aren’t many available yet (although Dell sells a back-protection hard plastic one, but it doesn’t encase the entire body like I would want), but we should see them popping out in a couple of weeks. Brands like Otterbox, Case-mate, Belkin or iFrogz are the ones in my mind when thinking of such accessories.

Also, there’s the Dell Streak leather case option, for those looking for a fancier protection method. They won’t be as tough against shocks and drops as some of the covers above, but will still provide decent amount of protection. Dell already has one such cover, a leather wallet envelope going for around 50 bucks (30 pounds in UK). Looks fine, but i would prefer a folio, i don’t really feel confident my Streak would stay firmly in place with that case.

Other Dell Streak accessories

In terms of other accessories, Dell has a bunch of them prepared, so you can order them together with your device (however, it seems they are only available in the UK for now, thus prices here are in pounds. You should know that 1 pound = ~1.6 USD). However, since these are “official accessories”, expect them to be pricey.

There are quite a few available, but I would consider must have only these ones:

  • the car dock kit. Dell sells it for 55 pounds in UK right now, but I’m sure there will be some other cheaper ones soon
  • USB charge and sync cable, which sells for 23 pounds, although I hope there is one already in the default package
  • a proper wireless headset. One of the existing Bluetooth headsets from Motorola or Plantronics should be OK, for around 30-50 bucks

There will be others too, like extra batteries (it’s nice the Streak comes with a removable battery, so you will be able to change it for around 40 bucks once it wears off in time), home AV kits (in order to connect it to a display/home theater system if you want to) or various adapters usable when traveling.

However, this Dell Streak is pretty neat by its own. Unlike other products from Apple for example, it does not need a lot of extra accessories. It already comes with a good camera, FM radio and other things you might need. So add a car kit if you want to use it in your vehicle and some protection and you should be good to go.

Like I said, this is only the first version of this post, it will be updated soon enough, as accessories and cases for the Streak do become available in the States. So better check it out from time to time if you’re looking for the best Dell Streak cases and covers, plus screen protectors and suitable accessories.
