Dell Streak price: $500 in the US, unsubsidized

Dell’s 5 inch Streak created a lot of hype lately. Being a mixture between a smatphone and a touchscreen tablet, it certainly attracted a lot of attention, especially in the US.

It comes with pretty much standard features and it is kind of oversized for a mobile phone (i for one can’t see myself using a 5 inch tablet for that), but it also packs pretty powerful hardware and the gorilla glass display (which makes it pretty much indestructible).

Now, in terms of features and specs, here’s what you should expect on the Streak (also called Dell Mini 5):

  • 5 inch multitouch capacitive display (800 x 480 px)
  • 1 GHZ Snapdragon CPU
  • 512 RAM, 512 ROM, microSD slot (up to 32 GB)
  • 5 MPx camera + VGA front-facing camera
  • UMTS/EDGE and 3G + Wi-Fi + Blueooth 2.1

As for price, Dell announced the Streak 5 will be available in the US for $499, unsubsidized. The good part is that you will be able to buy it without a new contract, which is great. The bad part is that it is kind of expensive, however, if you compare it with the Nexus One or Nokia N900, you’ll see it costs pretty much the same and offers some extras.

Mobile phone + 5 inch tablet = $500 = Dell Streak 5

Of course, the Dell Streak will also come subsidized and price might drop to 200 bucks or even below. You’ll have to pay the two years contract though.

The Streak will be available in the United Stated from July and you will be able to get it unsubsidized on Dell’s site. Also, expect it to land in Europe soon afterward, with prices around the 500 euro mark. In the UK it was already announced for around 429 pounds, all these being of course prices without a subsidy.

Prices with data plans should be available soon, so stay tuned for more info.
