Early reviews on the Asus 1201PN start poping out
As you might know, the Asus EEE PC 1201PN already started to sell in some regions of the globe (in New Zealand for instance), thus some guys already have one and have started to share their opinions about the device with the community.
That’s the case of the user Jaydee711 from EEEUser Forum who already has his Asus 1201PN and has started giving it a spin.

The Asus 1201PN can run intensive games like Eve Online decently
First, he says that he tried some online games on the 1201PN like EVE, and they worked very well with decent settings. That’s probably because of the ION2 platform, as this device comes only with single core N450 processors so will surely have problems with multitasking. Still, you will be able to run 1080p content smoothly and output it via HDMI on a bigger screen.
Also, it seems that this device only comes with a single memory slot and not two, as most do, although Jaydee711 dismantled the device and looked for it thoroughly. This means that, in case you’ll want to upgrade memory to 4 GB, you will have to buy a 4GB dim and it won’t be cheap.
The Wireless-N card used for it, an Atheros AR9285, is pretty slow and only allows up to 150 mbits speeds, as it doesn’t support neither dual channel or 5 GHz signal. Of course, this is quite a technical detail, I’m pretty sure most of you guys won’t even notice the difference in real-time applications. However, if you plan to use your Wireless network for downloads and have a late generation Wi-Fi N router, the card in the 1201PN might be considered a bottleneck.
Besides these, the screen is pretty good and it can be even used outside, because it is very bright. Still, it’s glossy so I have my doubts…
And it seems Asus decided only to offer compatible drivers for Windows 7 for the 1201PN EEE PC, so if you’re an XP fanatic, you might have some problems making all the components run properly.
That’s about it for now. For more info, see the thread on EEE User Forum . And also stay tuned on this site, I’ll try to update with new posts as soon as I find new interesting details about the 1201PN.
