First look on Samsung’s N127 netbook with Moblin
Once again we turn our attention to Las Vegas, where Samsung showcased the N127 netbook . It’s in fact the same as their popular N130 (that BTW is available on sales these days) , but it doesn’t run Windows OS, in uses Intel’s Moblin.
Meant to be a lighter, less resources hungry operating system, Moblin is built on Linux and, if you’re a standard user looking to get online, chat, use social services and watch movies/listen to music , you’ll actually quite like it. People that managed some hands-on time with this Samsung N127 were quite impressed of how snappy the OS was. In fact, overall experience on Moblin is better than when using Windows equipped netbooks. And that’s exactly how it should be.
However, if you’re used to your regular software on Windows, you might find it difficult to move to Moblin, although in most cases there are equivalent programs to the ones you’re already familiar. Still, if you use Microsoft’s Office or Adobe’s Photoshop or Apple’s QuickTime, though luck, these won’t work on Moblin.

Moblin - widget based light OS on a Samsung N127 netbook
I am looking forward to see Moblin in action myself, but from previous experiences with Android and Asus’s similar light OS for netbooks, i can’t say I’m impressed. These OS’es are light, easy to use and overall fast, but there are many features and programs I use daily and they can’t provide.
As for Samsung’s N127, it seems this was just a showcase product and there’s no intention to launch such a device for the US market. At least not in the near future.
