Gateway NS10I laptop – looks and power in a mini body

Gateway just announced their new line of laptops for the second part of 2010, with up to date features and a new design, one that looks incredibly professional and reminds me somehow of the older ThinkPads.

The smaller of these new notebooks is the Gateway NS10I, an 11.6 incher. You can get an idea on how will it look from the picture below. Classic and sober, perfect for my taste at least. I just love the matte black exterior and what seems to be a full-size flat keyboard with a decent trackpad with independent click buttons. Still, more pictures would be great, however only this one is available for now.

In terms of specs and hardware, there are lots of options available fro this Gateway. Built on the new Intel Arrandale ULV platform, you can pick Core i3 or i5 processors (Intel Core i3-330UM, core i5-430UM, Core i5-520UM, and Core i5-540UM), backed up by the Intel HM55 chipset with Intel Integrated HD Graphics, plus 4 GB of DDR3 memory and up to 640 GB storage space. Wi-Fi N, 3G and Bluetooth 3.0 are available in terms of wireless connectivity, while USB, card-reader, Gigabit LAN or webcam are present too. Windows 7 Home or Professional are your picks in terms of OS and in terms of batteries, you can choose from a 3 Cell 23Wh or two 6 Cell ones (48 or 63 Wh) – enough for anything between 3 to 8 hours of life.

All these in a device measuring 11.2″ x 8.1″ x 1.1″ and weighing around 3 pounds (1.6 kilo).

Gateway NS10I - small but versatile

Gateway NS10I - small, but versatile

All in all, this Gateway NS10I is definitely a device worth keeping a close eye on. The hardware it packs will allows it to run all your daily applications and even cope with multimedia content (1080P won’t be a problem). And its compact size and reduced weight make it a reliable travel companion.

I do expect it to be pricey though, but you probably expected that. Also, I’m looking forward to see it in some tests, as I’m worried that packing the new ULV Intel platform in such a small body might lead to overheating and poor battery life. But this is yet to be seen.

So stay tuned, more details will be posted on this Gateway NS10I mini laptop as soon as we find new things.
