Gigabyte M1000N netbook with the new ION inside
Next to Asus, the folks at Gigabyte were some of the most active showcasers this year at CeBIT, announcing many new netbooks built on different platforms and with different prices. So, after the convertible T1000 tablet netbooks displayed a couple of days ago, they now have a series of ION powered mini laptops. And more.
They just announced the M1000C series yesterday, that plans to attack the mainstream netbook’s level, with good PineTrail hardware (N470 processors), HD 10 inch display, big batteries (6 Cell 7800 Wh) and nice looks. See the picture below for how will the M1000 notebooks look like, the complete specs here and also check out this link for a video hands-on. Seems quite capable, definitely Toshiba and Asus have something to fear of in this Gigabyte.

Gigabyte M1000 series - nice looks and good features
Now, they unveiled a buffed up version, the Gigabyte Booktop M1000N, with the new Nvidia ION inside. Outside, this model is pretty much the same as the above, but specs inside are improved:
- Intel Atom N470 1.83 GHz processor
- 2 GB of memory and 250 GB storage drive
- Nvidia ION graphics (the 8 cores one used for 10 inch devices)
- 10 inch HD display (1366 x 768 ps resolution)
- different options of 6 Cells batteries
- Windows 7 Home Premium
- chiclet keyboard
- docking station
So, the Gigabyte M1000N states itself as quite a competitive mini laptops, too bad is still glossy. And since is part of the Booktop line, also comes with a docking station that includes HDMI output and an optical unit. Gigabyte plans to have this series available by May/June but there are no exact info on prices (expect them to be pretty high though, probably around $550).
They will have the M1000C version ready earlier, in April, so by the time the Ion version will get out we should know a couple of things about its looks, construction and reliability.
Anyway, that’s if for now, stay tuned for more updated info in the next weeks. And one more thing, Gigabyte also plans to display the E1000, an entry level netbook aimed to cost around $300 bucks. So stay tuned for details about it in the remaining days of CeBIT.
