Google Chrome OS, just in time to compete with Windows 7?
Although Google previously announced their Chrome OS operating system to be due in mid-2010, rumors say we’ll be able to see it on netbooks a lot sooner. In fact, just in a couple of weeks, in mid-October. But wait, Windows 7 gets out on October 22nd. Can this be a coincidence?
It’s true you can’t really compare the two, as the Google OS is way lighter than Microsoft’s software. But, it will also be a lost easier to use and faster, so it might get some adepts as soon as the first Chrome OS powered devices will enter the market. And, since concerns on the sluggishness of Windows 7 on regular Atom powered netbooks are starting to grow (as you can see in this post or as i was able to feel it on my own when i tested the Asus 1101HA, although i had Win 7 Ultimate installed on that), operating systems like this Google OS or Intel’s Moblin might have something to say in this segment.
I for one can’t pronounce myself over the utility of such an OS, cause i didn’t had the chance to test it live just yet, but I’m looking forward to do that somewhere in the near future. Till then, it seems that the netbook’s OS war has started. My money are still on Windows, but who knows what surprises we might see soon.
