HP Mini 311 gets more powerful, more attractive
HP Mini 311 is one of the most promising netbooks to enter the market this fall. I didn’t have the chance to get my hands on it, but others did and it received good reviews.
In terms of specs, it was announced to use the Nvidia ION LE platform, with a N270 Atom CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 160 GB hard-drive and good connectivity and battery life. However, HP plans to offer a couple of update options and customizations, as the Mini 311 will also be available with Full Nvidia ION , bigger hard-drives (250 or 320 GB), even faster SSD drives (80 GB) and more RAM (up to 3 GB). All these in order to meet the demands of the very soon to come Windows 7.
And based on these specs, i would reckon the HP mini 311 will be able to run the new Microsoft OS pretty smoothly, even with Aero and the other graphic options turned ON. It won’t be available with Ultimate, but there will be options to get Starter, Home or Professional versions for the Win 7 on this.
We just have to wait and see how much will these upgrades cost. As the base version of the Mini 311 starts from $399, adding more RAM and bigger hard-drive should not make prices rise too much. I just hope that it won’t get as expensive as the Dell Inpiron 11z .
