HP Pavilion DM1z brings good performance and a fair price
If you’re looking for a mini laptop with more muscles than the 10 inch Atom powered netbooks can provide, the 11.6 inch HP Pavilion DM1z is one of the devices you should not miss.
Unlike most other notebooks in this class, this HP does not pack an Intel platform, but the new AMD Nile. This means you will get good performance (better in terms of graphics that Intel offers) for an affordable price.
In fact, this 11.6 incher starts from $449 (but you can find coupons online that will shave 25-50 bucks off this). For this kind of money, you will get the AM Athlon II Neo Processor K125 (1.7GHz) and integrated ATI HD 4225 graphics, 2 GB of DDR3 memory, 250 GB hard-drive, Wireless N and Bluetooth, plus Windows 7 Home Premium as OS. Too bad there’s no full-keyboard included, but only a 92% Full-size one.
Overall, you should expect to decently run all your daily applications on this one. And, if you head for the better equipped versions (with a dual-core processor – will only set you back 25-75 bucks, so definitely a good pick), you could even use it as a compact multimedia center, being able to run all kind of video content and even some modern 3D games.

HP DM1z - 11.6 incher with AMD hardware
More details about options and different configurations can be found on HP’s site . I for one am looking forward for some tests of this little machine and compare its performances with the ones of other mini laptops, like the Toshiba Satellite 210, that packs the new Arrandale Intel ULV platform.
Anyway, it’s good to see diversity in this segment and i hope we’ll get more and more devices competing for our attention.
