HP Slate vs Apple iPad in the new commercials

Some of the first commercials for the new HP Slate and Apple iPad touch-tablets were released yesterday, and at the moment, the HP seems to out-beat the new iPad on quite a couple of domains.

Of course, both commercials are available below and are quite short, but enough to notice a couple of things about the devices.

The Apple iPad seems pretty thin and all the apps are lightning fast. We just have to see if that’s going to be true in practice. But, like Brad at Liliputing noticed, because of the 4/3 form factor and also because of the slim body, I’m pretty sure the iPad won’t be very comfy to hold in one hand and use with the other.

You also won’t be able to hold it in your lap while in bed or on the sofa, unless you keep the knees somehow bended towards the chest. And that’s not really a comfortable position, don’t you think?

Check out more on this subject on Brad’s post and also check the multitude of comments in there.

The commercial is below.

The HP Slate comes of course with a similar problem, but, since it is more compact and a little bit thicker, I’m pretty sure you’ll get a better grip on it. Check out the HP commercial also.

Not to mention that the HP Slate will come with a couple of noticeable advantages over the iPad. First, it’s built on an x86 platform, thus will be able to run Windows 7 and all the programs designed for it. Than, it will run Flash videos and Adobe Air, benefiting from numerous applications that won’t work on the Apple product. A preview of how will the Slate handle these features in the clip below.

However, there’s actually one big thing still undecided. Which of the devices will offer an overall more comfortable experience. Although the hardware inside the iPad is supposedly not that good, I’m inclined to believe it will be snappier than the Slate. But let’s just wait and see about that.
