Lenovo’s IdeaPad Yoga is surely flexible (video preview)
It’s time for some tablets as well in our CES 2012 bouquet and we think the IdeaPad Yoga deserves our attention. That’s because this is not just a tablet, but a hybrid actually, being able to switch from being a Windows 8 tablet to a laptop bordering ultrabook.
At a first glance, you have a normal 13.3 inch laptop that comes with a soft, rubbery keyboard and palm rest, and that’s not very different from all the laptops we had in our hands at CES.
But if you push the screen back, you’ll observe that it can go all the way back and thus transforms into a 13.3 inch tablet with the keyboard acting like a stand.
True, it might be less impressive than the Acer Iconia dual screen laptop concept, but it sure seems to be ready for action, especially considering that it packs the latest beta version of Windows 8 and the Metro UI.
The Yoga can be equipped with a Core iX series Sandy Bridge processor and comes with as much as 256 GB of SSD storage. The IPS screen looks quite good, but seems to collect fingerprints and be quite glossy, but that’s an issue of more tablets than we can count.

The large display accomodated Windows 8 Metro comfortably
As for ports, you get USB 2.0, USB 3.0, HDMI, card reader and there’s also a lock for blocking screen rotation. While we were quite curious about how the Metro interface runs, the Lenovo guy didn’t show us that (except a quick look at the piano app), but rather kept going about the fact that you have so many stand angles when in tablet mode. True, it’s nice to be able to set up your own desired angle and not have to count only on those conventional stands have to offer.
The Yoga will ship in the second half of 2012 with Windows 7 for a starting price of over $1000, but a Windows 8 version will be available as well when the OS will be properly launched. That’s what we have about Lenovo’s exciting new hybrid, the IdeaPad Yoga, for now, but if we’ll get more info during CES, we’ll let you know. Stay tuned for our video with the device.
