Lots of Intel goodies for netbooks from IDF 2009

Intel has gone wild this year at their Intel Developer Forum 2009 in San Francisco , announcing a bunch of new goodies and plans that will definitely have quite an impact on the future of netbooks.

First of all, their new Moblin 2.1 operating system for netbooks was released. There’s a quick pic from Engadget below.

Looks pretty neat and with lots of widgets, but i won’t be able to say more until i get my hands on a device loaded with it.

Then, Intel announced that they’re working together with Mercedes and BMW to offer advanced car entertainment systems powered by Intel Atoms. These systems should be available on the luxury cars made by these German manufacturers from 2012. They will probably offer multimedia applications, Internet access and smart 3D navigation methods, but we don’t have exact details on those pieces of software just yet.

Also, they published a short look on their roadmap for the next years in the low power processors segment. The plan is of course to offer more powerful CPUs with more advanced features, while of course lowering size and power consumption. More details here.

And last but not least, Intel announced they’ll be setting up an online store for applications specially developed for netbooks. They’re planning to split revenues 70/30 with producers. And since they already support quite a lot this segment, having their ATOM CPUs in almost all of the netbooks out there and now preparing their own OS, I’m pretty sure this new store will quickly become a success and more and more developers will turn their head on netbooks’ apps in the next years.

And I’m sure these are only the first things we’ll get from Intel on this year’s IDF . More to come pretty soon.
