New good nettops showcased at CeBIT 2010
Although we mainly speak about netbooks in here, there’s no reason to leave out their relatives, the nettops, mini computers with some multimedia possibilities, designed to be very compact and replace your desktops if you don’t use them for playing games.
Anyway, quite a bunch of new nettops have been showcased these days at CeBIT, many of them with fancy looks and packing the new ION platform, thus offering quite some performances. In the next rows I’m going to tell you a couple of things about some of the most important such nettops displayed ah Hanover.
Zotac ZBOX ID11

Zotac ZBOX ID11 barebone with D510 and ION
Haven’t heard about Zotac till now (did you?) but they have quite an interesting mini computer id development. There’s not much i can say about design and build quality for now, but it definitely ain’t ugly.
The interesting parts are inside though, as this device comes with a dual-core D510 processor and Nvidia ION graphics. Wi-fi N, Bluetooth, HDMI and DVI output and 6xUSB slots are present too. Also, it comes with a 2.5″ SATA storage bay and one DDR2 memory slot (these parts will be bought separately and can be easily installed in place – thus the computer is more some kind of barebone). More info on the product’s page.
For now, there’s no info on availability and price, but we expect it to be quite competitive if Zotac plans to have any chance when faced with the EEE BOXes or the Winds.
ASUS Eee Box EB1007

Compact Asus EEE Box with PineTrail
Asus prepared the first PineTrail powered EEE Box int heir offer, named EB1007 . There will be a couple of different versions, but all with dual-core ATOM processors, either D410 or D510 . Also, according to Netbook Italia , it will be able to play 108oP movies, thus it might come packed with a Broadcom accelerator.
Besides those, the ultra-slim form factor has been kept, the new EEE Box still missing an optical unit. That’s not really a problem, as you have all the other connectivity options, but they also chose to keep the glossy finish in rankly detest. However, it does look good, i can admit that.
So, if you’re looking for a multimedia PC that you can easily hide behind the display and forget about, this is the one. Prices are expected to be competitive, so expect this EEE Box to make-it to more and more homes everyday.
Eee Box EB1501U

Asus EEE Box EB1501U with USB 3.0 slots
There’s also the EEE Box EB1501U displayed by Asus at CeBIT, an updated version of their older EB1501 nettop.
Specs remained the same, with the older generation D330 dual core ATOM processor, 2 GB of memory, 320 GB storage space, Nvidia ION, Wi-fi N + Bluetooth and Windows 7 Home . The main update are the two USB 3.0 slots on the front of the unit, providing up to 8 times faster transfer speeds.
Not word on how much will the EB1501U cost, but since the older version runs for around $470, it should still be under 500 bucks. Expect more news in the following days.
New MSI Toast nettop
According to the folks at Ndevil, MSI has a new mini desktop, as displayed at CeBIT. It does come with a weird form factor though, resembling somewhat a toaster.
There’s no info on specs, so this device might be only a prototype for now. But it looks very nice, with the integrated optical unit on top and the matching remote control. I can see myself having such a multimedia mini computer on my living room, so as long as it will be able to run 1080P and stream content from the Internet, it might be quite a success.

MSI Toast mini PC
Stay tuned for more info in the following weeks, for now that’s all we have about this MSI Toast PC: a couple of pictures (above).
And there are also the Jetway Mini-Top Slim, a mini PC with dual core PineTrail and ION. You can read more about it in this post.
And of course, Shuttle showcased their XS35 fancy device we talk about earlier. See some pictures in here.
But CeBIT ain’t over, so expect more good nettops and mini desktops to be launched the following days. So stay tuned for an update of this post.
