Medion Akoya Mini E1312 – excellent price for a great netbook
More and more netbook producers are dropping Intel’s Atom platform for an AMD one. That’s the case of the new Medion Akoya Mini E1312 netbook, that promises very good performances for quite low prices.
First of all, Medion might not tell you much, but they’re a decent laptop producers in the low-price segment. Thus, you might get great deals from them, that would regularly cost you 20-30% more if bought from bigger names. And, since they offer 3 years warranty for this netbook for example, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.

Medion - decent netbook with a low price tag
Like i said, this Akoya Mini comes with am AMD Sempron 210U CPU. That’s weaker than the N270 from Intel, so if you need processing power, the processor inside this laptop might make you look the other way. But, if you need a netbook for browsing, docs reading, etc, then you should take a look at the other things the Akoya has to offer:
- 11’6″ screen and 1366 x 768 px resolution
- ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 graphics + HDMi output
- 1 Gb of RAM + 160 GB drive
- Wi-fi, Bluetooth, card reader
It also packs Windows XP OS and a 6 or 9 cell battery. For more details about this gadget, see the video bellow (it’s 9 minutes long, so it’s pretty detailed.)
The Medion Akoya Mini (this name sounds so funny in my head. Makes me think to some kind of anime cartoon) will be available in stores from July 12th, but only in Europe. It will be priced around 400 euros and there’s no rumor on any State version. But, when will it cross the ocean, it should cost around 400-450 bucks. And that’s like i said, 20-30% cheaper than other similar netbooks from Asus, Acer or Sony.
Still, it’s a Medion, so I’m not sure whether I’d buy one or not. What do you guys think?
