Mio Moov V780 – more than a GPS, an impressive Tegra touch tablet

We know Mio as a GPS producer, one of the best actually. But with the new Mio Moov V780 they’ve entered a new territory, the one of touch tablets powered by Nvidia’s Tegra platform. Seems like a good choice, as this segment is still in its early days and Mio’s device is quite interesting.

It brings a capacitive 7 inch display with 800 x 480 px resolution and can be used for many multimedia activities. First, because of the Tegra inside, it can play many types of video content (including HD). The 512 MB memory also helps the performances level to be pretty good. Then you can use it for all kind of online activities, as it comes with 3G, Wi-Fi and Wimax connectivity options. And there’s also the GPS feature, but Mio also plans to offer an integrated TV tuner as an option, thus making this Moov V780 one of the most versatile multimedia tablets I’ve heard off.

Not to mention that it will be light and pretty thin, so you will be able to easily take it along with you. And since the Nvidia Tegra is not that avid for energy, you should get a decent autonomy also.

So everything looks good for the Moov V780. But don’t get your hopes too high, here come the bad parts. First, it runs Windows CE. And although there’s a specially customized 3D interface, you do get stuck with IE6 as browser and overall surfing experience is kind of sluggish. But, there will be an Android powered version available pretty soon that should solve these inconvenients.

However, there’s one thing that will not change and that is the price. Mio announced they will offer the Moov V780 for around 599 euros in Europe (don’t know the prices for the US yet) and i believe this is just the starting price.

You should know that besides the actual tablet, you will also get an external keyboard and a mini dock. So, once you’ll connect the tablet to these accessories, you’ll end up with a  device somewhat similar to a netbook. And since this is a car-destined gadget, you do get other accessories also, like car-stands, power-chargers, etc.

Anyway, that’s it for now, do check out the hands-on video from CeBIT by JKKmobile and look forward for new info on this Mio Moov V780 in the near future.
