More details on the Asus EEE PCs 1015P and 1015PE

Meant to be replacements for the Asus EEE PC 1005PE line, the 1015P and 1015PE EEE PCs are expected to enter the market pretty soon. And while they won’t bring significant changes in terms of specs and hardware, will address some of the important things potential buyers complained on the 1005PE: the glossy casing and the trackpad. Of course, a couple of other improvements will be present too.

In terms of features, both these netbooks will be part of the Seashell series and will bring:

  • Intel N450 processor (with N470/N455/N475 to follow) + GMA 3150 graphics
  • 1-2 GB of RAM
  • up to 320 GB hard-drives
  • Wi-fi N, Bluetooth 2.1, Ethernet Gigabit LAN
  • VGA, 3xUSB ports, webcam, card-reader
  • 4 or 6 Cell batteries (the bigger one, with 63 Wh capacity, will offer up to 13.5 hours of life)
  • 262x178x23.6~36.4mm
  • 1.25Kg – 2.5 lbs (w/ 6cell battery), 1.1Kg – 2.2 lbs (w/ 3cell battery)

So everything looks the same like on the current mainstream 10 inch series, thus don’t expect improved performance. However, on the exterior things are better.

The Asus EEE PC 1015P will come with a plastic textured casing and palm-rest. Trackpad is now bigger and separated from the rest of the casing by two narrow gaps. The same textured plastic is used for it and there’s still only one click-button, but slightly bigger. Display and area around it seems to have been kept glossy. More details in the pictures below or on Asus’s site.

The Asus EEE PC 1015PE uses a rubber-like material for the casing and palm rest, which should feel better than the textured one on the 1015P and provide the same level of protection against fingerprints, scratches and smudges. Also, it looks a little bit more stylish, trackpad being enriched with some chrome decorations on the sides. The area around the screen seems still glossy, but I’m not sure about the display itself (hopefully this one will be matte). More details in the pictures below or on Asus’s site.

All in all, I’m glad Asus decided to turn their mainstream 10 incher matte. From what we know right now, i do prefer the looks of the 1005PE EEE PC, but it’s too soon to say something for sure.

Still, we know nothing on price and availability yet, but stay tuned for more info on these new Asus Seashells soon.
