MSI X-SLIM X340 – cheaper and with better battery life

Bigger battery and better price are the main advantages of the improved MSI X340
MSI just upgraded their X-Slim X340 portable laptop with a couple of interesting goodies. This one is similar to the X320 we presented earlier, but brings a better Core 2 Solo SU3500 CPU (1.4 Ghz), 2 GB of RAM and a bigger hard-drive (320 GB).
The improvements on the new MSI X340 start with a better battery, a 8 Cell one, compared to the 4 Cell offered before, that will boost battery life beyond the 8 hours mark. Unfortunately this battery is also bulkier, and while it fits perfectly with the overall line of the device, it brings quite an increase in weight, from 2.9 to 3.4 pounds. That might not seem much, but it’s half a pound still and those of you looking for a notebook as light as possible might not like this. Oh,and if you already have the older version, you can get the new battery for $99 .
The very good news is that these improvements also brought a price decrease, and you can now get the MSI X340 for just $799.
So all these are good additions to MSI’s ultra-portable notebook. Bringing the price down and improving one of it’s bigger faults, the autonomy, will surely make it more attractable to potential users. Perhaps the next step should be working on the glossy plastic case, if they really want to compete with devices like Asus Ux30 or Macbook Air in terms of looks too.
