Netbooks for South Africa: LG X140 World Cup edition and Samsung N150 Adidas
Only a couple of days left before June 11 when the Word Cup 2010 officially kicks off in South Africa and we already have a couple of limited edition netbooks designed for this event. They don’t actually bring many things new in terms of hardware and specs, but come with customized skins that should make them less common than standard devices. And also, more expensive.
One of these special netbooks is the Samsung N150 Adidas, available in white and with a new design. It’s not breath-taking and is also only available in glossy finish, unlike standard N150s that also come in matte. However, this one packs Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity. Everything else is standard: 10.1 inch 1024 x 600 px, N450 CPU, 1 GB of RAM, Windows 7 Starter. Should be available in Asia but there’s no info on pricing yet and we don’t know if it will come to the US or Europe.

There’s also the LG X140 World Cup Edition, which will be available in three colors, each with different skins on the lid-cover. Besides the special design, this one also packs some extra options that most standard 10 inchers lack: a 10 inch HD display 1366 x 768 px, N470 processor, 2 GB of memory as standard, 3G and 9 Cell battery (up to 12 hours of life). Pricing and availability are not yet unveiled for this LG either, but if you go for all the extras, expect it to be pricey.

All in all, these special edition laptops are fun. But definitely not something i would spend my money on. So I doubt they will be too successful. Perhaps they will only be available in Asia, as those guys are known to buy anything with the face of Becham, Ronaldo or Rooney on them.
Still, LG and Samsung made them to create a little bit extra hype around their brands, and they surely succeeded that. It’s all about marketing ![]()
