New Asus netbooks with aluminum finish: 1015P, 1016P and 1018P
The folks at Asus seem to take their job of regaining the position of top netbooks seller very seriously. Only a couple of months after they launched the new PineTrail lines, rumors say they are preparing new goodies for us, to be displayed at Cebit 2010, in Germany, next week.
There are actually three different versions. We don’t know much about them yet, but it seems we’re finally going to get rid of the glossy cases that are going to be replaced with brushed aluminum finishes like we saw on the UL series. Thank you Asus, i’ve been sick and tired of that extra glosiness and been craving for a change for years. Also, there are some details about each of the expected models:
- EEE PC 1015P - the updated version of the mainstream 1005PE, with 14+ hours battery life and better keyboard+touchpad
- EEE PC 1016P – a premium netbook meant to compete with the likes of HP Mini 5102. Should come with quite some design and price tag attached, but also might offer top notch features like SSD drives, HD display or 3G
- EEE PC 1018P – a replacement for the fashion series, the 1008PE. Should offer a redesigned aluminum case, extra thin body, fingerprint reader and USB 3.0, alongside a better battery that can go for up to 10 hours

New Asus line jsut breathes quality
I doubt anything will change inside, but maybe we’ll see some of these devices with Nvidia Ion 2 graphics (the platform is expected to showcase at CES too). Any way of improving current performances would be appreciated.
Still, although it seems odd from Asus to replace their popular lines so fast, the new versions are way better looking and fix some of the problems clients have been complaining: glossy exterior, keyboard and touchpad. This comes as a check for the competition, as i’m pretty sure they we’re not prepared for that. Or were they and we’ll be seeing new netbooks from Toshiba, Acer or HP at Cebit as well? Let’s just wait and see.
