New HP Elitebook 2740p shows how a touch-laptop should work
It seems these days that more and more producers are trying to push touch-tablet and touch-mini laptops towards us, and this is only the beginning. However, with small laptops being so popular, they also try to keep size and weight down as much as possible, thus the 10 inch tablet-netbooks like the Lenovo S10-3t or the Asus T101MT were born. However, they do have one big flaw: rubbish performances.
HP on the other way launched their Elitebook 2740p, part of their upper line of tablet-pcs, a device that promises to combine portability with good performances. There’s a video below that will show you how snappy Windows 7 is on this gadget, and it should be, cause inside you’re going to get Core i5/i7 low-voltage processors, up to 8 GB memory, SSD drives and lots of extra goodies.
All these in a 12 inch mini laptop that weighs just around 3.8 pounds and offers a capacitive multi-touch display with 1280 x 800 px resolution.

And there many other features worth mentioning like the decent battery life (around 5 hours in practice), the magnesium alloy case and the multitude of useful accessories available for it (a very slim extra battery that will expand autonomy to up to 11 hours or a special dock with lots of ports and an optical unit).
Of course, all these come with a price, so you’ll be able to get the HP Elitebook 2740p from $1599.
Check out the video below for more details:
So, you cannot actually compare this device with the likes of the 10 inch touch-netbooks mentioned above. But we can only hope that in a year or two we’ll be able to get the same performance levels on those smaller and affordable devices.
