New iPod Touch 4G from Apple – cooler and way better
Of all the Apple products, I particularly like the iPod Touch, the device is consider the best personal multimedia player on the market right now. And it’s not just my opinion, as the iPod Touch is the most popular such device in the US and all over the world. Now, Apple launched a new generation: the iPod Touch 4G . And it’s even cooler than before.

New iPot Touch is here, better than ever
In terms of looks, they kept the slate aspect, the 3.5 inch display and the ports placement, but they made the iTouch slimmer. If the previous generation was 0.33 inches thick, this one dropped 0.05 inch to only 0.28 inches (7 mm). And it’s lighter too, weighing only around 100 g (3.5 ounces). Now that’s slender indeed and means it should take some good iPod Touch Cases to keep it safe, but that’s a subject for another post.
So, the iPod Touch 4G looks better, but the real improvements are inside, and there are quite a bunch of them:
- retina display – live I’ve said, there’s still a 3.5 inch screen on this new Touch, but resolution was quadrupled, to 960 x 640 px (like on the new iPhone 4G). Than means everything on this display will be more crisp and smooth.
- new hardware: the same Apple A4 processor as the one in the new iPhone – this translates in snappier experience
- two cameras – a front facing VGA one for FaceTime and a rear-facing one that can record 720p videos (still, resolution for still cameras is poor)
- can play H.264 and MPEG-4 video content up to 720p
- new 3-axis gyroscope for enhanced gaming experience, accelerometer, light sensor
- Wi-fi N, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, Nike+ and Maps
- battery life up to 40 hours of audio and 7 of video
- new iOS 4 operating system, allowing access to new features and applications
- a bunch of different languages for the UI and different keyboard layouts for each of these languages
And of course, the new Touch will work with most of your older accessories, including stands, speakers, headsets, etc. You will need new cases though, as this one is now slimmer and the older versions will be quite loose.
All in all, this new iPod Touch 4G is quite a device. Prices will range from $229 (16 GB) t0 $399 (64 GB), so comparable to the ones for the older 3rd generation. Here you should find the best deals on the new iPod Touch, with better prices than on Apple’s site.
But this new generation does bring better looks and display, is faster and with a couple of much needed new functions. So if you own one of the previous generations, you’ll for sure want this one instead.

My Zune HD will get dumped for this one
In the last years, I’ve went from the first iPod Touch to a Samsung YP-P2 and to the Zune HD i curently use, but i believe it’s time for me to get back to the iTouch.
What do you guys think? Is this new iPod Touch 4G worth all the hype? And did it impress you enough to get one?
