New Pine Trail CPUs early next year, with new graphics
Intel announced they will get their Atom N450 CPU available from January 3rd, 2010 . This will be the first processor on the PineTrail platform to get on the market.
It will retail for $64 , which is $20 more than the current N270. it will be clocked at 1.66 Ghz (so very similar to the 1.6GHz of the N270), so, while there might be some performance improvements, they won’t be very big. However, the new CPU will be a smaller and will emit less heat, thus it will be used in even thinner and lighter netbooks that will provide better battery life.
In terms of graphics, we’ve told you that the PineTrail architecture joins CPU and graphics on the same chip. Intel announced they will be using the GMA 3150 (at least for the single core CPUs D410 and D510). We don’t have exact info on performances, but since this is perhaps an improvement of the Intel GMA 3100 found on computers with Intel G31 chipset (a 2 years old chipset, by the way), i doubt we’ll really see a big difference from current ATOM platforms. Especially since Intel already stated the new Pine Trail architecture won’t offer hardware graphic acceleration. However, you can still join this N450 (and almost surely the other PineTrail Atom CPUs) with Nvidia Ion and the new to come and improved Nvidia Ion 2. With increased price, increased TDP and without solving the low processor performances.

New Pine Trail Atom vs Old Atom
But I should leave these negative assumptions out until the first benchmarks of the N450 get out, probably later this year. Only then we will be able to say for sure how good will be the new Pine Trail platform over the current one.
