New Toshiba NB305 gets a first review

Following what was perhaps the best 10 inch netbook of 2009, Toshiba NB305 is a mini laptop that has to live to the name of its predecessor, the NB205.

Although the product is new and was just announced at CES last week, the folks from Laptopmag allready got their hands on it and managed to post one of their thorough reviews.

Overall the device is a little better in terms of performance than the old one, but there’s hardly any noticeable difference. Battery life however hasn’t increased as we expected from the new hardware platform and goes for around 8 and a half hours (for the 6 Cell one). That’s OK, but Asus’s new mainstream, the 1005PE, can offer up to 2 extra hours in autonomy.

In terms of looks and construction, the new NB305 is superior to the old one, with a metallic touch matte finish and one of the best keyboards and touchpad found on such a small device, plus a better battery integration with the body (the old one used to stick out on the back).

However, with a price tag off $399 , the Toshiba NB305 isn’t very affordable, and while being overall a very good device, i’m pretty sure many potential buyers might go for the Asus, because that one is actually 30 bucks cheaper (and comes with some advantages over this one).
